Every child deserves a fair start in life.

Welcome!

Since 1994, the Coalition for Far Northwest Alberta Brighter Futures Society has been dedicated to serving families in Fort Vermilion and La Crete. We offer interactive parent-child activities, peer support, and parenting education for families with children aged 0-6.

As a registered charity, we are proud to be funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada as a member of the CAPC-CPNP Coalition (Community Action Program for Children and Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program). Additionally, through funding from Alberta Advanced Education and Community Adult Learning Program (CALP), we provide vital foundational learning opportunities for adults in the region. We are also proud to incorporate Fort Vermilion Support Services (FVSS) under our umbrella to further serve our community.

“Play is our brain’s favourite way of learning.”

-Diane Ackerman

Every child deserves the best start in life. We understand that some families need additional support to nurture their children's growth, health, and well-being, and we are here to provide the resources and education necessary to help you and your family thrive.

Activities you can work on together

Sometimes young children face challenges that can be met through Head Start: there can be speech delays, or developmental delays. Due to family circumstances children may be stressed which impedes their ability to learn, or there may not be many opportunities to play. Head Start can help families out. Through home visits and parent nights, our staff members assist parents in parenting, in addressing a child's needs and provide the family with information on the best start for their child. If there are circumstances where we cannot help a family out, we will refer to other agencies as we partner with other agencies in your community. We are not judgmental: we do not mind what you house looks like, all we want to do is help you out for the best development of your children. Home visits are an important element in supporting you in your parenting.
